Global R&D Manager at ABB Metals
Andreas Vollmer graduated as a Diploma Engineer in Electrical Engineering from the University of Paderborn in Germany. In August 1987 he started his career, at what was then known as BBC, as Commissioning Engineer for Metals flat rolling mills and processing line projects and was based in Mannheim, Germany. In 1989 he went on to work at their research and development team. Andreas has held a number of important positions within ABB’s regional support center, utilizing his metal industry experience and expertise to assist colleagues and customers globally, including internal and customer-facing training sessions, and engineering and commissioning support.
In 1995 Andreas became Head of Research & Development for ABB Metals in Germany. In his current role as Global Research & Development Manager for Product Group Metals he is the driving force behind research and development projects for with ABB’s Metals Product Group while at the same time supporting their global sales team. Andreas and his team develop their own products and services as well as providing solutions based on the many innovative technologies available under the ABB umbrella, helping metals producers to overcome both current and future challenges to improve productivity, quality, safety and much more.
